Course Summary:
This course is for those currently employed to teach or train in the post-16 education and skills sector. If you are new to teaching, perhaps because you need to undertake it as part of your job, or have already been teaching or tutoring for a while but wish to gain a formal qualification, then this course is for you. The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need as a teacher or trainer. It will equip assessors who are required to deliver training as part of the apprenticeship standards.

Eligibility:
Learners must be over 19 at the start of the course. You should have English and maths skills at level 2 or above. You must have access to at least 30 hours of teaching practice with learners if you wish to do this qualification.

How will the course be taught?
You and your tutor will use an online learning platform to keep a record of evidence of your progress and achievements. You will demonstrate your competence by: • Participating in classroom-based learning sessions • Being observed for 3-6 sessions of your teaching practice - a maximum of 3 hours in total • Completing written assignments and your learning journal We aim to assess you ‘holistically’. That is, there is not one way of demonstrating your achievement, we use a range of methods to ensure that you have covered all aspects of the requirements.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will give you regular feedback on your progress and you will also be able to monitor your progress online.

Prior Knowledge:
You will be working in, or be employed to start work in an education and training role. You will have maths and English qualifications to a Level 2 standard. If you need maths and/or English qualifications, please contact us for further advice.

What do I need to bring?
Pens, paper, a folder in which to organise your work. You are welcome to bring a laptop, tablet or smartphone.

What course can I do next?
You could do the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. There is a suite of related qualifications that you can take advice on, depending on your professional role.

Health and safety:
All of our venues undergo a health and safety audit on a regular basis. The tutor will advise on health and safety guidelines at the beginning of the course, these guidelines will be followed throughout the course.
